MC Press eBooks come in two formats, PDF and EPUB, and are protected with Adobe DRM. To read one, you need a free ByteBooks ID and a reading app that supports Adobe DRM. This page helps you choose a format, set up your app, and find features many readers never discover.

Choose your format: PDF or EPUB

The short answer: choose PDF if you'll read mostly on a computer or large tablet and want pages that look exactly like the printed book. Choose EPUB if you'll read mostly on a phone, small tablet or e-reader and want text that resizes to fit your screen.

Important change (June 2026): ByteBooks ID replaces Adobe ID

Adobe has transferred its eBook platform to ByteBooks, a Wipro company. Reading apps now sign in with a ByteBooks ID instead of an Adobe ID. If your device is already authorized with an Adobe ID, you can keep reading as usual. You need a ByteBooks ID only when you set up a new device or are asked to sign in again.

What happens after you buy

You will receive two emails:

An order confirmation from MC Press Bookstore.
A separate "Your eBook is Ready" email from noreply@editionguard.com with your download link. If it hasn't arrived within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.

Get your book in 3 steps

Create your ByteBooks ID at dtsbytebooks.com/transition-help. If you ever had an Adobe ID, use the same email address and choose the option for an existing Adobe ID account, so the eBooks you already own move with you. ByteBooks will email you a 6-digit verification code to finish setup.
Install a reading app and sign in with your ByteBooks ID. See Choose a reading app below. Many apps still label the sign-in field "Adobe ID". That's expected: enter your ByteBooks email and password there.
Download your book. Click the link in the EditionGuard email and follow the steps on that page. You will get a small .acsm file. Open it with your reading app and the full book downloads.

Tip: Sign in to your reading app before opening the .acsm file. If you open it first with an app that isn't signed in, you may need to download it again.

Choose a reading app

All three apps below open MC Press eBooks. Pick by the device you read on most. You can use more than one, as long as each is signed in with the same ByteBooks ID.

Adobe Digital Editions (Windows and Mac)

The standard desktop app for Adobe DRM eBooks, now supported by ByteBooks. Download Adobe Digital Editions (free).

Sign in: Help > Authorize Computer. Choose "Adobe ID" as the eBook vendor, then enter your ByteBooks email and password.

Features you may not know about:

Search the whole book. Find every mention of a command, keyword or error message across all chapters, then click a result to jump straight to it.
Bookmarks, highlights and notes. Mark the pages you return to and add your own notes next to the text.
Print pages. Print a chapter or a reference table for your desk. (The publisher sets how much of each book can be printed.)
Move books to an e-reader. Connect a Kobo, Nook, PocketBook or other Adobe DRM e-reader by USB and drag the book onto it.
Custom bookshelves. Organize your library into shelves and sort by title, author or publisher.
Screen reader support. Works with JAWS and NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on Mac.
Adjust the text. Change font size on EPUB books and zoom on PDF pages.

If Adobe Digital Editions won't start on a recent version of macOS, PocketBook Reader or Bluefire Reader on an iPad is a good alternative.

PocketBook Reader (iPhone, iPad and Android)

A free, full-featured reading app for phones and tablets. Download it from the App Store or Google Play.

Sign in: Open the app's settings, find Adobe DRM, and enter your ByteBooks email and password (the field may say "Adobe ID").

Features you may not know about:

Listen to your book. Built-in text-to-speech reads chapters aloud, handy for reviewing material while commuting.
Pick up where you left off on any device. With a free PocketBook Cloud account, your books, reading position and library sync between phone, tablet and PocketBook e-readers.
Reflow PDF pages. PDF reflow rewraps the text to fit a phone screen, so you don't have to pinch and scroll sideways. You can also crop page margins automatically.
Highlights, notes and bookmarks. Highlight passages, type or handwrite notes, and bookmark pages.
Dictionary and translation. Look up or translate a word without leaving the page.
Reading themes. Switch between day, night, sepia and gray themes, and adjust font size, margins and colors.
Hands-free page turning. Turn pages with the volume buttons, or set automatic scrolling.

Bluefire Reader (iPhone and iPad)

A long-standing Adobe DRM reader for Apple devices, updated for ByteBooks ID in June 2026. Get Bluefire Reader on the App Store ($4.99).

Sign in: Open the app's account settings and enter your ByteBooks email and password where it asks for an Adobe ID.

Features you may not know about:

Accessibility built in. Works with VoiceOver and Dynamic Type, and supports Dark Mode.
Bookmarks, notes and search. Search within a book and keep notes and bookmarks as you study.
Collections. Group books into collections, for example by product or project, and search your library by title, author or publisher.
Sync your reading position. Optionally keep your place in sync between your iPhone and iPad.
Import and export with the Files app. Add .acsm, EPUB and PDF files from Files, and back up your library with your device.
Draw on PDF pages. Mark up diagrams and figures with the PDF drawing tool.
Rich EPUB 3 support. Displays audio, video, interactive and fixed-layout EPUB 3 content.

Tips for technical books

Reading code listings on a phone? Turn the device sideways. Longer lines fit, and wrapped code is easier to follow.
Need a quick reference? Use search instead of the table of contents. Searching a command name or message ID is usually the fastest way to the right page.
Studying for a certification? Highlight key points as you read. Most apps can list all your highlights and notes in one place for review.

Good to know

Kindle is not supported. Kindle devices and the Kindle app cannot open Adobe DRM eBooks.
E-readers: Kobo, Nook, PocketBook and other e-readers that support Adobe DRM can read MC Press eBooks. Transfer them from Adobe Digital Editions, or sign the e-reader in with your ByteBooks ID.
Linux: There is no supported Linux app. Use an Android or Apple device with PocketBook Reader instead.
Forgot your ByteBooks password? Reset it at dtsbytebooks.com/forgot-password. You can't reset it inside the reading app.
